Simon’s group - the 16 to 24s

September 30th, 2006

It was a nervous couple of days for the lucky few who made it in to the 16 to 24s group.

Initially pleased to find out that Simon Cowell would be mentoring them, this soon changed when after the first day Simon announced he’d seen two people worth keeping.

Stand out performances came from 21 year old Fiona, and 17 year old Nikita, both singing Mariah Carey’s Hero. Nikita seems to be a star in the making, and really did her Mum’s memory proud in the auditions, showing true professionalism.

Slightly more shaky was young Sean, who has suffered from chronic stage fright since the first audition. Things were no different in boot camp, and he was left with a nervous wait to find out whether his obvious potential was enough to get him through.

There was also a share of controversy - after Simon had announced his final 7, he realised he had made a mistake and convinced the producers to let him choose a final 8. The reason? He decided that Ray, despite a poor performance on the final day, really did deserve a place.

Our tips for the final four: Fiona, Nikita, Sean and Ray.
